PARTICIPATION & ACHIEVEMENTS IN MOOT COURT COMPETITIONS DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2009-10

At NUALS, Moot Courts are viewed as an integral part of legal education, aimed to acclimatise the students to the skills of lawyering in general and advocacy in particular. The objective behind the Moot Courts is to inculcate court culture and courtroom etiquette among law students and make them conversant with the art of pleading besides familiarizing them with various aspects of law. The moot court activities of the University are co-ordinated by the NUALS Moot Court Society. The responsibilities of the Society include conducting a rigorous selection process in the month of March every year and also to organize and arrange moot court activities during the course of a mooting year i.e., from April – March. The activities of the NUALS Moot Court Society were co-ordinated by: Mr. Jacob Joseph (Faculty Advisor to the Moot Court Society), Ms. Gayathri P.G., Mr. Govind P., Mr. Karni Singh Rajora, Mr. Salman S., Ms. Ajitha P. & Ms. Aarathi Gopal.

In March 2009 an Internal Moot Court Competition was held at the University with the objective of preparing a rank list of mooters for the 2009-2010 mooting year. 70 students from various semesters participated in the competition which was judged by senior lawyers and senior academicians. During the mooting year (April 2009 – March 2010) teams representing the University participated in 28 moot court competitions and 2 client counselling competitions held at different parts of the country. Members of the various teams were selected on the basis of their inter se merit as determined through the internal moot court competition. During the mooting year 2009-10 teams from NUALS have achieved tremendous success in national level moot court competitions.
