The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) was established by Act 27 of 2005 of the Kerala State Legislature

CENTRES- Interdisciplinary Centre for Social Justice


Interdisciplinary Centre for Social Justice established in the National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi to encourage research and development in the field of Constitutional obligations towards the empowerment of socially and economically backward classes and minorities. The Centre addresses the constitutional mandate to create an egalitarian society and also commits itself to understanding the rights of the downtrodden as enshrined in the Constitution of India. Further, the Centre will offer courses and provide qualitative platform in advance studies, qualitative competitions and impart training programmes to lawyers, judicial officers, employees and students belonging to socially and economically backward classes especially Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes.

Inauguration of the Centre
The Centre was inaugurated by Hon'ble Mr. Justice Madan B. Lokur, Judge Supreme Court of India on 25th October 2014 at NUALS moot court hall, NUALS, Kochi. The function was presided over Prof. (Dr.) Rose Varghese, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, NUALS. Prof. (Dr.) M.C.Valson, Mr. Hari S. Nair was felicitating the function.

Activities:

Parliamentary Debates on the theme of 'social justice

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Social Justice successfully hosted the 1st NUALS Parliamentary Debate at the National University of Advanced Legal Studies Campus, Kochi on the 11th and 12th of October, 2014. The debating competition started with the inaugural ceremony presided by Prof. (Dr.) M. C. Valson, Director, Centre for Environment and Law, NUALS. The chief guest Hon'ble Mr. Justice K. Abraham Mathew, Judge, High Court of Kerala inaugurated the event. The Hon'ble judge motivated the participants to be proactive in solving the social issues faced by the country. The cross team comprising of Mr. Shashwath S. Bharadwaj from PES University, Banglore and Ms. Sharada Srinivasan from NLSIU, Banglore was declared as the Best Debating Team of 1st NUALS Parliamentary Debate Competition.

Legal Awereness Camp and Socia-Legal Survey at Attappadi

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Social Justice and the Centre for Continuing Legal Education and Extension, NUALS in cooperation with the Attappai Hills Area Development Society (AHADS) conducted a Legal Awareness Camp and Socio-Legal Survey at Attappadi on 10th and 11th of April, 2015.
