| Professor Jayakumar started his career as a lecturer in the Kerala Law Academy Law College, Thiruvananthapuram in 1976. In the year 1988 he was appointed as the Founder Head of the Department of Law, University of Kerala. He played an active role in introducing Credit & Semester System in PG at the University of Kerala. As the Dean, Faculty of Law he was instrumental in revamping the LL.B. syllabus and introducing the Semester System and Continuous Assessment in legal education also. Professor Jayakumar has held innumerable positions of high esteem like Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Kerala, Dean, Faculty of Law, Kannur University, Chairman, Post Graduate Board of Studies in Law, University of Kerala and Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai. He is also in the Academic Councils and PG Board of Studies in Law of several universities in India, which benefit continually from his wide experience and expertise. He was a visiting Professor at the Australian National University, Canberra, and the Vienna University, Austria. Professor Jayakumar was also the Secretary of the Kerala State Legislative Assembly for two terms. As the secretary of the Kerala State Legislative Assembly he initiated digitalisation of Assembly Proceedings and edited a monumental work – Kerala Legislative Assembly – Fifty Years of Legislation and the Golden Jubilee Souvenir. He has travelled extensively and delivered lectures and attended academic programmes in Australia, United States of America, Hong Kong, Singapore, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, apart from lectures at universities and institutions of national importance in India. Professor Jayakumar has served as a member of various expert committees including the Working Group on Environment (Planning Commission of India), the University Grants Commission Committee on Restructuring Post Graduate Legal Education, Committee for Suggesting Reforms in Legal Education (Kerala), Kerala Law Reforms Commission and the Committee for the Rights of Women and Children. Prof. Jayakumar has authored 11 books including Judicial Process in India, Lectures in Jurisprudence and Administrative Law. He has also contributed the section on "Courts" in the Halsbury's Laws of India and also the chapter on "Law of Education" in the Annual Survey of Indian Law. |
